#MeToo maybe words of support to some, but for others the pain is real, the shame is overwhelming, and the feeling lasts a lifetime. The ripple effects of sexual violence sometimes do not come out for years after the initial incident.
Today you get to meet Dot, a woman who has lived a lifetime of pain that began when she was sexually assaulted by her own father as a young girl. Dot turned to alcohol to numb the pain and shame, as she believed she was the one to blame, and perhaps even the only one who had ever been assaulted.
Dot spoke enthusiastically to me, asking me to PLEASE share her story, because she knows the power of support. The power of surrounding yourself with people who care, people who have been there, people who are willing to listen. Dot had to experience the very worst of times before she finally asked for help. It is her WISH that if just one person watches her story, and asks for help, then it was worth sharing!
