Healing the loss!
As I listened to Hilary describe the challenges of her life, I began to realize that loss as she describes it, is not always a death. Loss could be a divorce, a move, a job you didn't get, something that was a challenge to you. Hilary has had many losses in her life, her parents passed 8 months apart, she is a single parent, she has moved many times, she has endured storms that devistated communities around her, but the most catastrophic and profound loss happened October 1, 2013 when her son Tyler died in his sleep 5 days after his 18th birthday.
Hilary describes her life in terms of challenges and altough in most people's eyes the death of a child is the very worst, Hilary says she no one loss is more than anothers. The loss of a pet is 100% to the person experiencing the loss. A divorce is 100% to the person living it. It is not a game of who has the biggest loss, or more grief, it is about support, compassion, and companionship.
Hilary gives some practical examples of what happens during loss, and how to help those who are grieving. I love the examples of how we can support others, and at the same time it makes me sad that people miss the opportunity to just be kind. I do hope you will listen, remember to comfort a friend in whatever loss they may be dealing with. If you have suffered a loss and would like to connect with Hilary - her business is called Healing The Loss, she is kind, compassionate, and most importantly she has lived, and found the resources to keep living.
