I am a soul having a human experience!
Terry Choyce came to Nova Scotia 40 years ago, and in the last 16 years (since her divorce) she has been creating her giving and caring life. Terry says, "A caring life is not what you are doing but HOW you are doing it." She is "sort of" retired, that means that she decides what she does and when. Terry did some reflection over what she wanted in her life, and what she wanted and made changes that suited her.
Leaving her marriage after 32 years, was one of the most difficult things she has ever done, but has zero regrets. She then began reinventing herself. It was a challenge for her to feel fulfilled. She and a friend started a course called circle of women. They discussed who they were, what they wanted to be, what they loved and why they didn't do what they loved.
Women needed a venue in Halifax to show their work. As a result Terry helped to create a gallery at the YWCA on Barrington Street. For 5 years she ran Your Women's Creative Art Gallery. There were as many as 20 artists shown at a time. The gallery closed when the YWCA building closed and they went to satallite offices.
Terry loved working as a chaplin of the Unitarian Church of Halifax. She ran a pre-school for 23 years. She and her x-husband ran a publishing company. She edited books. She worked at the Brunswick Street United Church as their minister. She went to the United School of Theology, to become legitimate. She felt like she was a minister / social worker / counsellor. She moved to Bedford United Church.
Terry challenges you to think about who you are? Who are you at your core? What are the things you identify with? What are the ways you can grow who you are? Terry says gratitude is the secret sauce!
