I have already survived 100% of everything I have been through.
Wanda shares her story of chronic mental illness due to sexual assault, molestation, incest, teenage rape, and adult sexual assault. Wanda has CPTSD (Complex post traumatic stress disorder), depression, boarder line personality disorder, anxiety and panic disorder.
Wanda learned from an early age that you couldn't trust people. From six years old Wanda believed she had done something wrong. She was told not to let anyone touch her body, but no one ever told her what to do if that happened, and as a result she kept the story to herself. She thought she was bad, and didn't tell anyone.
Fear when bottled up with no way out, and no release turns into anger, rage, lying, rebelliousness, self loathing, self harm, promiscuity, and aggression.
At the age of 8 Wanda's adult cousin raped her from the first time. She was the "favorite" cousin, a "special" cousin. At that time her behavior problems began, she didn't want to be anyone's FAVORITE.
By the age of 12 Wanda made the choice about what she was going to do, she felt if she said NO then they were going to take it anyway. She felt dirty, and in pain, and became the martyr. She wanted the pain instead of someone else.
Wanda believed that her purpose on this earth was to prevent others from being the one assaulted. Her journey to healing has been a difficult road. She used writing as her outlet and saving grace. She couldn't share the pain, fear and hurt that was bottled inside, but she expressed it through her writing.
Wanda's poetry is her gift to herself and soon the world as she is about to publish her first book of poetry.
Wanda is on a road of recovery, forgiving herself, and battling the mental health conditions. She is surrounded by a community of support.
