Inside every senior is a young person wondering what happened.
Laura is a student at St. F. X. University. She is researching the opportunity to create a housing share project that will help reduce social isolation, increase mentorship opportunities, and support seniors to age in place, while increasing housing options for students. Seniors do not want to be institutionalized as they age, having a student in house will help provide simple maintenance and supports.
Social isolation is not limited to seniors in our community whose children have grown and moved away, it also applies to students who are living away from home and have not yet connected to their community. Laura's project is exploring best practices and models that have already achieved success. The goal is that all participants will be supported in the process.
Laura is working on a research project, and developing a framework that can be implemented with ease. Her goal is to network and build resources in development of this project. She is optimistic that this is the foundation of work to come, including her masters thesis.
Laura is working under the Wallace Family Entrepreneurship Fund that is managed by St. F. X. University's Extension and Innovation Centre.
